Curriculum

Colloquial Portuguese A1.1 Outline Chapter 0 A Guide to Pronunciation

This level introduces learners to the fundamentals of Portuguese pronunciation and basic communication. You will learn how to greet people, introduce themselves, talk about daily activities, discuss family, travel, and handle everyday situations such as ordering food, shopping, and transportation.

Chapter 1: Olá, tudo bem? (Hello, How Are You?)

What you’ll achieve:
 Communicate basic greetings, introductions, and simple social interactions.

You will learn how to:

  • Use common greetings, introductions, and farewells
  • Introduce yourself and others
  • Order food or drinks in simple situations
  • Talk about nationalities
  • Use subject pronouns in simple sentences
  • Use definite and indefinite articles
  • Use the present indicative tense in basic conversations

Chapter 2: Gosto de viajar (I Like to Travel)

What you’ll achieve:
 Talk about preferences, routines, and everyday activities.

You will learn how to:

  • Use common verbs in conversation
  • Express likes and dislikes
  • Use the present indicative of regular verbs
  • Describe yourself and your daily activities
  • Tell the time
  • Talk about days of the week

Chapter 3: Parabéns! (Congratulations!)

What you’ll achieve:
 Discuss personal information, family relationships, and past events.

You will learn how to:

  • Talk about age, date, and place of birth
  • Describe family relationships
  • Use the preterite tense to talk about past events
  • Use possessive adjectives and pronouns
  • Ask for a table at a restaurant
  • Order food in a restaurant

Chapter 4: Desculpe! (Excuse Me!)

What you’ll achieve:
 Ask for directions, interact in hotels, and talk about future plans.

You will learn how to:

  • Ask for and understand directions
  • Find your way around a city or location
  • Book or request a room in a hotel
  • Choose the correct form of “you” in Portuguese
  • Talk about future plans
  • Use the imperative for requests or instructions

Chapter 5: Posso ver…? (Can I See…?)

What you’ll achieve:
 Communicate effectively while shopping and describing items.

You will learn how to:

  • Compare different items
  • Select, request, and pay for products
  • Use demonstratives such as this, that, these, and those
  • Talk about sizes, quantities, weights, and colors

Chapter 6: Uma ida para Lisboa (A Trip to Lisbon)

What you’ll achieve:
 Talk about travel plans and use transportation in everyday situations.

You will learn how to:

  • Talk about different types of transportation
  • Ask for a ticket on a train
  • Use the future indicative tense
  • Rent a car and buy petrol
  • Handle basic car problems

Class Terms & Conditions

  • Your Online Portuguese course fee includes one digital copy of the learning materials. If you’d prefer a hard copy, you can purchase one from our recommended supplier at an extra cost.
  • Public group classes are designed for 30 academic hours per CEFR level. If the group grows to 5-7 students, we’ll extend the program by 10 academic hours. If only two students enroll before the course starts, the group will shift to a semi-private format with 20 academic hours.
  • Want to switch to a different group or schedule? No problem! Just let us know at least 7 days before the course starts.
  • All our teachers are native speakers of the target language. If your teacher falls ill or has an emergency, we’ll arrange a substitute who’s fully briefed on your progress.
  • Once you’ve started with your group, switching to another group or schedule isn’t possible.
  • Please note that course fees are non-refundable once the group classes have begun.
  • We can record group lessons for later viewing, but only if everyone in the class agrees before the course starts.
  • At the end of every program, you’ll take a final exam (both written and verbal). To move up to the next CEFR level, you’ll need to score at least 70%.
  • After completing your final exam, you’ll receive a progress report, recommendations, and a certification for your hard work!
